Outlook Freeware Messages: 268 Registration: 10/23/2007	#3 0 8/8/2011 3:36 PM Ali, install the ReliefJet Essentials for Outlook software product. It provides a free Outlook Tweaker which allows to enable linked attachments (just check the Allow linked attachments and restart the Outlook).

Here's a fix:

To configure the AllowAttachByRef registry entry, add a DWORD value named AllowAttachByRef that has a value of 1. To add this registry entry, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. Locate and then click one of the following subkeys in the registry:

Outlook 2010 (version 14.0)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
Or:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security

Outlook 2007 (version 12.0)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security
Or:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security

Outlook 2003 (version 11.0)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security
Or:

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

4. Type AllowAttachByRef for the name of the DWORD, and then press ENTER.

5. Right-click AllowAttachByRef, and then click Modify.

6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

super melodrama Messages: 1 Registration: 4/13/2013	#7 0 4/13/2013 11:53 AM Great utility! After you run the utility, you must compact your pst file to see a reduction in file size. I went from a 4 gig pst to a 1 gig pst file. The attachment folder was 3 gigs. Math works. All this takes hours. The initial "detachment" and subsequent compression. Patience helps. The attachments can no longer be previewed. They must be opened with the helper application. I opened a pdf and the properties box showed me that the file was located in the new attachments folder. The registry fix for enabling opening of Outlook attachments worked. It's easy to do it manually.
